Search Engine Optimisation -SEO
A: Process applied to a website in order to make it more search engine spider friendly. This process is ongoing and involves
several key elements including both on and off page techniques. Search engine optimisation is vital if you wish your website to rank well in
the search results.

Page Rank
A: Page Rank is the number value from 1 - 10 allocated to a website by Google and denotes how important a website is on the
web. Link exchange plays a major role in the page rank as Google treats links to your website as a vote of confidence. Hence the more links from
other quality websites pointing to yours, the more important your site must be.

Spiders / Crawlers
A: These programs are used by search engines. Spiders scour the web by following links from link to link and page to page,
gathering vital information about websites as they go. This information is then stored in the database for the relevant search engine. ie
Google. These details are then used by Google for example to display results to users when performing a search.

Content Management Systems - CMS
A: This term is used to describe computer software designed to create and maintain websites in real time ( Live ) through a
web interface very similar to word. The benefits of having a CMS website are: you do not require a great deal of html knowledge, they can save
you money by reducing ongoing maintenance costs and offer improved security.

Keyword Phrase
A: The term ‘keyword’ or ‘Keyword phrase’ is used to describe the combination of words entered by the user into search engines
in order to find information on a specific topic of interest. Keywords phrases can
be as short as a single word or series of several words strung together.

Link Exchange
A: Link exchange is used in SEO and describes the process of exchanging links between websites in order to increase a
websites status or visibility in search engines. Each link is treated by Google as a vote of confidence in your site and can assist in
increasing your page rank. The best results are achieved by exchanging links with websites offering the same or similar service to you and
with higher Page Rank PR.

White Hat SEO
A: White Hat SEO is the term given to good search engine optimisation techniques used by web designers to achieve and
maintain a websites page rank and status in search engines. White HAT SEO is considered ethical and unlike Black HAT SEO, will generate long
term results.
White Hat SEO techniques can include:
- Text Content
- Correct Coding
- Including informative News Articles
- Website Submission to search engines
- Link structure - ( Internal, Reciprocal )

Black Hat SEO
A: Black Hat SEO is the term given to describe BAD or illegal SEO techniques. These methods are used as a short cut to achieve
a good page rank, and while they can work they, results are short lived and should be discouraged.

Website Hosting
A: Once your website has been designed it needs to be uploaded / published to a hosting server to make it accessible via the interent. In order for this
to be possible, you need to have it hosted by an Internet Service Provider - (ISP). Put simply you pay a company who then allocates an IP address and space on their hard drive ( Server
). For this they charge you a monthly or yearly fee.

Google Sitemap.xml
A: Sitemap.xml files contain a list of all the pages contained within your website along with their respective URL's. The
Sitemap.xml is then used by Google to help index your website.

On Page Optimisation
A: Process used to describe methods web designers use to optimise a website to be search engine friendly. The on page process
includes text content, images, links, Title keyword phrases, Meta tag keywords and descriptions. On page optimisation acts as the main
foundation in the SEO process.

Off Page Optimisation
A: This process is more time consuming and involves, link exchange, and boosting your websites link popularity via social
book marking, Digg, My Space, Twitter etc, creation of informative articles and submitting to forums.
